Seems long ago, I held you close
And rocked you in my arms;
I whispered dreams and cradled you,
Held captive by your charms.
And as time passed, I watched you grow
And take a step or two,
And for a fleeting moment then ...
I wished it wasn't true.
My thoughts were spinning ... little girls,
They grow up much too fast;
First walking, running, cars then boys,
And soon the "present's" passed.
It wasn't long before your cries
Returned reality;
And many happy years ensued
You grew so beautifully.
A bond that lasts a lifetime,
Is a bond that we have found;
And through our trials and happy times
I always have been proud.
And now I watch with joy and love
The life within you grow;
And pray that you will also find
The love that I have known.
