On gentle breeze, I used to soar,
The vast expanse of evermore ...
With windswept currents 'neath my wings,
A song in heart, I'd sweetly sing.
My feathered tips would dip and sway,
While swiftly gliding cares away;
Above the clouds, so strong and free,
'Tis there I lived a fantasy.
A glory to behold, was this,
And yet, I only reminisce;
For now, in gilded cage, I perch,
'Twas plucked from heaven, fell to earth.

He watches from the other side,
To view his treasure ... captured pride;
He sees the surface, not the soul,
That weeps from tireless control.
Her wings are clipped, her heart is scarred,
'Tis lonely there within the bars;
Her strength is ebbing, put to test,
Her song now silenced ... laid to rest.
