Please don’t expect so much from me,
Don’t set me up to fail;
I can’t accomplish all you ask,
I’m human, and I’m frail.
Look past your expectations,
Try to see reality …
Attempt to understand
The scope of all you ask of me.
Could anyone achieve these goals
That you have firmly set?
If I were someone else,
Would you expect them to be met?
Would you have set the bar so high,
For someone else to reach?
Would you have pushed and prodded them
To meet the heights you preach?
Look in the mirror … talk to me,
And see beyond the glass;
Forgive me for mistakes I’ve made,
For all that’s come to pass.
Be satisfied with who I am,
With who I’ve come to be;
Don’t push until I lose my faith
In you … as well as me.
