This wedding poem was written in conjunction with my beautiful niece, Candace.
It was written from her perspective, and read aloud at her wedding to her handsome groom, Tyler.
Together as One
Today, I stand beside the love that I was blessed to find,
A love that fills the depths of me, like none I’ve known in kind;
My prayers and dreams and wishes to our angels up above
Had finally come full circle when you wrapped me in your love.
I often feel a master plan had set us on this trail,
Two single journeys joined as one, as if by fairytale;
To my delight and awe, it’s real … my dreams through you came true,
Together, you have chosen me, and I have chosen you.
You are my special someone who fulfills my dreams of youth,
Those tender days of wistful hopes, and promises of truth;
You see beyond the masks I wear, you know the whole of me,
Embracing my complexities to lift and set us free.
You are my missing piece that brings us balance from within,
That yin to yang that makes us whole … my diametric twin;
Our hearts and minds are one, as if by unison, they call
To build the strength that anchors us together through it all.
No longer do we face the world or challenges alone,
United, we have built upon the lessons we’ve been shown;
With family, friends and loved ones standing firmly by our side,
We harness their examples to be followed as our guide.
How fortunate we are, to know we’ve found that special one,
To know this patient, loving bond has only just begun;
Together, we’re unstoppable, our force as one combined,
To bring us to this place and time, forever intertwined.
