Passing The Torch

I had a puppy long ago,
   Her memories remain,
Of life and love and tenderness,
   I shall recall her name.

But time has passed and she has gone,
   No one can bring her back,
She's left me joyous memories,
   But there's no turning back.

I have a new protector now,
   She shines as bright as gold,
She's not the one I loved before,
   But sweet and bright and bold.

She has some catching up to do,
   For she is yet so young,
And life is still so new to her;
   Our time has just begun.
