Out of Body - Out of Mind

Please tell me I am not alone, for often I’ll admit,
I sometimes think I’ll lose my mind (or what is left of it)!
My daily life careens along mechanically upstream,
When all at once, I feel as if I’ve wakened from a dream.

It happens when I least expect, just like it has before,
A burst of sudden clarity that leaves me wanting more;
I’m minding my own business when this flash will intervene,
It crashes all about me like some giant movie screen.

No longer I’m the actor, or participant in life ...
I seem to see the players from a’far, in different light;
I feel I’m floating on a plane and looking back at them,
As actors merely read their lines and play their parts, but then ...

It’s in these times, my senses soar, for everything is clear,
The sounds, the smells, the visions are so bright and strong when here;
I feel I’m looking past the very essence of my life,
Into a world of make-believe; it cuts me like a knife.

It’s these enlightening moments when I feel so out of place,
While watching those around me as they play “The Human Race”;
But if “they” are the actors and their world is fantasy,
Then only in these moments ... am “I” in reality?!?
